National Project Photography Instructor for “Open Shutters,” a photographic project sponsored by the sContemporary Arts Center of Virginia Beach. Taught a group of community photographers (senior citizens and high school students) how to document their impressions of African American life in the Hampton Roads area of southern Virginia. Spring 1995.
VISUAL MANAGEMENT
Founder. Chicago Alliance of African American Photographers. Brown conceived the idea to photographically document the life and culture of African Americans in the Greater Chicago area at the turn of the 21st century. Led a team of 70 (editors and photographers) that worked on the organization’s signature project “The Journey: The Next 100 Years,” as the project director. Collaborated with art administrators in securing exhibit venues, and the donation of the original silver-gelatin exhibition prints to the Chicago History Museum’s permanent collection. Promoted the historical importance of the project through radio, TV, newspaper and magazine interviews. Managed corporate fundraising and established the organizational 501(c) 3 destination. (1999-2009).
Faculty Advisor. Established the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Student Chapter at Howard University as the Advisor. The chapter founded in 2016 was NPPA’s 14th student branch and the first chapter at an Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The Howard University student chapter was named as the “NPPA Student Chapter of theF Year,” by the national organization because outstanding work in the greater Washington and university communities. (2016-19).
